There was a time when I would have been mortified to have my gleaming white legs and unkempt hair captured in a photograph. Over the years, I’ve become adept at slinking off to the side of the frame or staying behind the camera or using other people and props to interrupt my outline in pictures. But with a half century of camouflage experience behind me, I’ve had to face how exhausting and futile and quite silly it is to expend so much energy on trying to bend reality to hide the Me I am right now.
So, thank you to Armando Diaz, aka OUTthere, for this photo from the Pine Street Art Festival. I’m glad you took it, and I’m glad I saw it.
